Derm Guerin & Leith Tebbit start GT Communications (Guerin & Tebbit Communications), to provide communications systems to the Darling Downs and Western Downs.
1982
Founder, Derm, testing GT (Guerin & Tebbit Communications) radio coverage from a service vehicle.
1983
GT Communications launches Wide Area UHF Darling Downs and Lockyer Valley, allowing you to talk from Dalby to Gatton in the car.
1984
First generation GARDA Dog deterrent designed and deployed for Paroo Shire Council.
1985
GT Communications rebrands as Comtel in Toowoomba.
1986
Australian Federal Government deregulates the supply of telephony equipment and Comtel becomes Telecom's (Telstra) first local competitor.
1986
Comtel supplies first non-Telecom PABX, after industry deregulation, to McLean Farms at Pittsworth.
1987
First mobile phone deployments on the Telecom 017 network in Toowoomba.
1990
Comtel, an early adopter for solar technology, setting up site infrastructure to increase radio coverage of remote emergency services in South West Queensland.
1991
Comtel expands reach, opening our Brisbane branch as Philcomm to specialise in radio and fleet communications in a joint venture with Telecoast Communications.
1993
Comel expands its reach, opening an office at Gailes East of Ipswich as our agreements procluded us from trading in Brisbane, so we set up on the boarder.
1994
Leasing the top of Waterfront Place building in Eagle St, Brisbane to extend the wide area network to provide extended coverage around Brisbane.
1994
Comtel becomes a Siemens partner (now Unify).
1995
Comtel becomes a Optus Mobile Satellite Dealer.

Comtel wins Phillips Group Dealer Of The Year.

Comtel acquires Com Site Rentals (QLD) and Trunked Wide Area Radio Network covering South East Queensland.
1998
Comtel installs the first private microwave link to Toowoomba City Council joining Administration to the Works Department.
1999
Comtel becomes a Telstra Premium FixedNet Dealer - one of the few dealers nationwide selling the whole suite of Telstra products.

Comtel deploys 5000 Users across Ipswich and West Moreton Regional Health's seven 7 Sites on Siemens HiCom 300 Network

Mt Kynoch tower is upgraded from 30m tower to a taller & stronger 40m tower, allowing for more more microwave dishes, providing extended services to the wider Toowoomba region.

Comtel purchases Siemens Enterprise Communications service agreements in Queensland and employees 4 staff.

Comtel, an early adopter of Australian-invented wifi, deploys our first 802.11 WiFi 0 links, joining buildings together.
2001
First national VoIP deployment over ISDN. The system reduced costs and allowed a lot more capacity.
2002
Comtel deploys HiPath 4000 system to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.
2003
Comtel moves from Gordon Ave to a larger warehouse/ office in Ann St, Toowoomba, to accommodate the growing team.
2004
Comtel part takes in an international project (Philippines), North Luzon Expressway for Leighton Construction funded by the World Bank to link eight sites with hundreds of kilometres of fibre.
2003
Comtel upgrades over 2000 users of the University of Southern Queensland to Siemens HiPath DX V9, saving tens of thousands of dollars in replacement costs.
2005
Comtel deploys its first controller-based multi access point WiFi.
2006
Comtel installs phone system for Brisbane State High School.

For utilising their tech in novel ways, Comtel wins Siemens Australian Dealer of the Year.

Comtel acquires Tebbits Communications in Dalby, expanding service area to Western Queensland, and putting the GT Communications band back together.

Comtel deploys HiPath 5000 to the Queensland Department of Education School for 400 teachers of Distance Education.

Comtel introducing SIP Trunking (internet phone lines) to Queensland clients, reducing costs by 60%.
2014
Comtel partners with Wagner Airport Corporation for radio communications and air services at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport (WTB), Australia's first international airport in over 40 years.
2015
Comtel acquires Telecoast Communications on the Gold Coast, expanding serviced area to Northern New South Wales.
2017
Comtel deploys DMR Tier 3 Wide Area Network over 13 sites covering South East Queensland, supporting 3000 users.
2018
Comtel partners with the 2018 Commonwealth Games to deploy 800 Vehicle Radios with zero faults across the Games.

Comtel wins Unify Australian Dealer Of The Year

On behalf of a client, Comtel deploys Unify OpenScape Voice for 250 site customer across Australia.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Comtel launched Private Cloud Telephony solution powered by Unify OpenScape Voice.
